Inadvertent anagrams: “Existentially problematic” sentences. Part Two

Kontynuując nasze poprzednie rozważania o tłumaczeniu zdań z inwersją, dzisiaj skupimy uwagę na jednym przykładzie, który sprawił pewne trudności. Oto tekst polski:

Bardzo ciekawym eksponatem  i – jak wynika z bogatej literatury poświęconej Beniowskiemu – zupełnie niezbadanym jest znajdujący się w zbiorach Oddziału Rękopisów Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej kilkusetstronicowy zbiór akt śledztwa przeprowadzonego przez władze carskie na Kamczatce w związku z ucieczką Beniowskiego. Bardzo cennym obiektem, którego oryginał będzie można zobaczyć w pierwszym tygodniu trwania wystawy, jest fragment pieśni VII poematu Beniowski Juliusza Słowackiego, zawierający liczne skreślenia i poprawki autorskie.

Nas interesują przede wszystkim fragmenty wytłuszczone, które sprawiły sporo kłopotu początkującym tłumaczom, ze względu na występującą w nich inwersję szyku (mimo że z czasownikiem być w roli orzeczenia). Oto dwie próby przekładu tego tekstu:

*A very interesting exhibit, which has not been surveyed yet (the literature concerned with Benyowsky shows that), is a collection of files concerning the investigation conducted by the Russian Empire authorities in Kamchatka after Benyowski’s escape, comprising hundreds of pages (the Manuscripts Department of Jagiellonian Library). What may be seen as an exhibit of great value is an original fragment of the epic poem by Juliusz Słowacki, entitled Beniowski, including a large number of the author’s corrections and deletions.

*A very interesting exhibit and – according to extensive literature on Benyovszky – an inscrutable one is a several hundred pages collection of the investigation files, prepared by the tsarist authorities in Kamchatka, concerning Benyovszky’s escape. It has been stored in the Manuscript Division in the Jagiellonian Library. A very valuable piece is a fragment of Song 7 from the poem Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki, which is marked with words crossed out and other alterations made by the author.

Jak widzimy, tłumacze nie poradzili sobie z inwersją tych zdań, choć jeden zauważył problem w drugim zdaniu  i próbował się uporać z nim wprowadzając konstrukcję z noun clause, jednak z wynikiem niezbyt udanym. Oczywiście nie uniknęli także i innych błędów. Spróbujmy im pomóc:

Another  very valuable piece is a manuscript with a passage from Canto 7 from the poem Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki, which is marked with words crossed out and other alterations made by the author.

Zauważmy, że problemem był niewłaściwy wybór articles – zamienienie indefinite article w pozycji inicjalnej na inne wyrażenie (One of the…; Another…) likwiduje problem.
