Porady starej wyjadaczki dla młodych tłumaczy 31

One is not always the right choice: jak tłumaczyć polskie formy bezosobowe – 2

Instead   try   YOU

*The exhibition entitled Following the trails of European identity of Cracow is a multimedia event, a travel back in time. Visitors can not only see but also touch the history from the early days of the legendary city. In the archaeological park, situated over 4 metres underneath the Main Square, one can see the section of the large, vibrant with life medieval Cracow which is unprecedented in Europe.

In the archeological park situated over 4 metres below the surface of the Main Market, one can see unique cross section of great, bustling with life medieval Krakow.

Zamieniamy one na you (i oczywiście poprawiamy liczne  pozostałe błędy):

The exhibition entitled Following the trail of Cracow’s  European identity is a multimedia event, it’s like travelling back in time. The exhibition entitled “Following the European Identity of Cracow” is a multimedia show, something like time travel. Visitors not only see, but also touch the history of the beginnings of the legendary city. In the archaeological park located over 4 metres below street level, you can see a cross-section of the huge, lively Cracow of the Middle Ages. It’s a display which is unprecedented on a European scale.

The exhibition called ‘Tracing Kraków’s  European Identity' is a multimedia show, akin to travel back in time. Visitors can not only see, but also touch the history of the city’s legendary beginnings. In the archaeological park situated over 4 metres below street level in the Main Market, you can see a unique cross-section of a great, medieval Kraków, a city bustling with life. You won’t find another display quite like it in the whole of Europe.

A oto następne fragmenty wzięte z przewodnika:

* As a result we can admire surprisingly mature city plan, logical and harmonious in its space arrangement, with a centre of 200x200m main square. There are basically three streets running from each side of the main square which cross other streets at a right angle creating a typical for medieval cities chessboard arrangement. One can see irregularities and curvatures of some streets (e.g. Grodzka) which resulted from going round the previous buildings.

*Inside one can find a classicistic altar from the early 19th century with the late baroque copy of the holy picture of Our Lady-in-Arena. From the town side one can see a bas-relief from the 18th century depicting St. Florian. A well preserved grating runner by the gate portal can be seen even today.

Polski tekst brzmiał:

W rezultacie powstał zdumiewający dojrzałością plan miasta o logicznym i harmonijnym układzie przestrzennym, którego centrum stanowi rynek o wymiarach 200 × 200 metrów.

Poprawiamy:

There are basically three streets running from each side of the main square which cross other streets at right angles, creating the chessboard arrangement typical for medieval cities. You can see irregularities and curvatures along some streets (e.g. the Grodzka),  due to the fact that the designers and builders had to take into consideration existing buildings, surviving from the city's pre-charter times,  and go round them.

Inside you’ll see an early 19th-century Neo-Classical altar with a Late Baroque copy of the holy picture of Our Lady-in-Arena. From the town side you can see an 18th-century bas-relief depicting St. Florian.  You can still see a well preserved portcullis groove by the gate portal.

A  teraz  mamy  serię  przykładów  z opisów wystaw:

* We do hope that the cycle The great prop department of the artist will be a perfect opportunity to broaden one's mind and make oneself acquainted with Jan Matejko's rich collection.

Polski tekst brzmiał:

Mamy nadzieję, że cykl Wielka rekwizytornia artysty będzie doskonałą okazją poszerzenia wiedzy oraz zapoznania się z bogatym zbiorem kolekcjonerskim Jana Matejki.

Poprawiamy:

We hope that the cycle of exhibitions entitled  An Artist’s Grand Collection of Artefacts will serve as a perfect opportunity for you to discover and learn more about Jan Matejko’s abundant collection.

Oto kolejny fragment z przewodnika po wystawie:

* The first week of the exhibition is marked by a very precious item – a fragment of Song VII from the poem Beniowski by Juliusz Słowacki, where one can see numerous deletions and author's corrections.

Polski tekst brzmiał:

Bardzo cennym obiektem, którego oryginał będzie można zobaczyć w pierwszym tygodniu trwania wystawy, jest fragment pieśni VII poematu Beniowski Juliusza Słowackiego, zawierający liczne skreślenia  i poprawki autorskie.

Poprawiamy:

A particularly rare and valuable exhibit you’ll be able to see in the first week of the Exhibition is a manuscript with a passage from Canto VII of Juliusz Słowacki’s poem Beniowski, in the poet’s hand and with numerous deletions and amendments made by him.

I wreszcie ostatni na dzisiaj przykład z opisu wystawy:

* Among the pastel masterpieces one can see an oil painting of Henryk Hoyer Jr. - painted with so vigorous strokes of a brush that a certain distance from the piece is necessary in order to see clearly scholar`s face.

Polski tekst brzmiał:

Obok dzieł pastelowych na wystawie można zobaczyć olejny portret Henryka Hoyera jun., malowany energicznymi pociągnięciami pędzla, które dopiero z pewnej odległości tworzą wyraźną twarz uczonego.

Poprawiamy:

Alongside the works in pastel in the Exhibition you can also see a portrait in oils of Henryk Hoyer Jun.  done in vigorous brushstrokes. You have to stand back a bit to get a clear view of the scholar’s face.
